Our verdict

MyHome.ie edges Daft.ie for site-hunting, mainly thanks to its superior map search. Both should be running as saved alerts. The better sites — especially those with planning already granted — often go through local auctioneers who may list on both portals but drop the listing to their own contacts first.

Word of mouth locally

Still a valid route in rural Ireland — a conversation at a GAA match can beat six months of refreshing portals.

Filter recipe

On both portals, set your saved search to sub-category "Site", maximum price matching your budget, and your county (or ideally multiple counties in a commuter radius). Critically, don't filter out sites without planning — many of the best opportunities are sold subject to planning, and you can usually tell from the photos and ad copy whether a realistic application is achievable. Our planning permission guide covers how to judge this.
